The World of Scriptria
Welcome to Acanthium
A continent of ink, crowns, lost memories and beautiful lies.
Acanthium is the world of Scriptria, a romantasy series by Eva Alton. It is a continent divided by old wars, guarded secrets and a dangerous kind of magic: the power to write reality itself.
Here, words are never harmless. A sentence can open a door, alter a memory, erase a name or preserve a lie for generations.
Back to Scriptria Explore the RealmsA world shaped by written magic
In Acanthium, magic is not spoken or cast with gestures. It is written. The Scriptrias are trained to use ink, language and memory to alter reality.
Every spell has a price. The greater the change, the more memory it consumes. A small charm may cost almost nothing. A powerful rewriting may take years of a life, a face once loved, or the truth of who someone used to be.
The Realms of Acanthium
The political heart of Acanthium. Elegant, ordered and beautiful, Oreste values archives, bureaucracy, knowledge and control. It is home to Vespera and to the Scriptoria Magna.
A land of olive groves, gardens, music, poetry and old stories. While Oreste keeps history in documents, Oleandra keeps it in songs.
A harsh eastern realm of mountains, fortresses, soldiers and alchemists. Laurentia values duty, discipline and survival, and deeply mistrusts the Scriptoria.
Southern islands tied to trade, sea routes and the precious ink used in written magic. Thymian is independent, practical and difficult to control.
The Scriptoria Magna
The Scriptoria Magna is the most prestigious institution in Oreste. Officially, it trains gifted children to serve the realm.
Unofficially, it is a beautiful prison. Children with the talent for written magic are taken there, educated, disciplined and bound to the Crown.
To many citizens of Oreste, becoming a Scriptria is an honour. To many families, it is a sentence whispered through tears.
Key Places
The capital of Oreste, known as the Jewel of the realm. A city of canals, pale stone, bridges, libraries and political secrets.
Nicte Maren’s coastal birthplace. A place of cliffs, storms, fishing boats and old routes toward Thymian.
A hidden refuge in the lower canals of Vespera. Behind its ordinary walls, fugitives find routes, forged documents and shelter.
Also called the Sea of Ink. Sailors still leave offerings before crossing its dark waters.
A history rewritten
Four centuries ago, Acanthium was not divided into three great realms. It was one continent under one Crown.
Then came war, succession, broken oaths and the discovery that written magic could do more than alter the present. It could reshape what people remembered about the past.
Since then, the official history of Acanthium has been polished, corrected and preserved. But not every truth stays buried forever.
